Hybrid Power Supplies

If you are unable to connect to the national grid, a hybrid power supply is the solution. Hybrid power supplies combine renewable energy sources like wind power, solar energy, micro-hydro schemes, and conventional diesel generators to ensure you have a reliable source of power 24 hours per day, without manual intervention.
Solar, wind or Micro hydro systems charge a battery bank
The battery bank runs an inverter, which converts the stored DC energy from the battery bank back to mains AC electricity.
Standard Mains Voltage Electricity Powers The House
If an appliance is required that uses more electricity than the inverter and battery bank can provide, the controller will automatically start the diesel generator. This will provide power directly to the house, bypassing the battery bank and inverter.
If the battery bank gets low, the generator will automatically start to recharge it, ensuring a reliable supply of power.
Energy for Cooking, Heating, and refrigeration is usually best provided by Gas.
Smaller loads, like energy efficient lighting, TV sets and smaller computers can be run directly from the battery bank. If the Solar Panels, Wind Generators and MicroHydro plants are working and adequately sized the generator will not need to run.
Larger loads like washing machines, 'fridges and electric kettle will require the generator to start, or ideally should be replaced with gas appliances when possible.
